Oil
Slow and patient. Built up in glazes until the colour seems to hold its own light from within.

Transparent and unforgiving. The white of the paper does as much work as the pigment laid over it.

Matte, opaque, immediate. Flat fields of colour that sit quietly side by side.

A classical eye, a contemporary hand
Irina Ginj has drawn and painted since she was a small child, and never really stopped. What began as a way of looking became a way of speaking: painting is how she sets down what she feels and what she sees, her own language, made of light and colour.
She works across oil, watercolour, gouache, acrylic and pencil, choosing the material to suit the subject rather than the other way around. Alongside her own work she takes on commissions, painting a particular place, person or feeling onto canvas for those who ask.
